Woven Fusible Interlining for Formal Jacket Construction
Sep 22, 2026

Formal jackets rely on carefully controlled construction to achieve a polished appearance. Internal reinforcement can help selected panels retain their shape and contribute to the overall silhouette. Woven fusible interlining is commonly used for this purpose because its woven base offers stability and can be bonded directly to the outer fabric through an adhesive coating.
A jacket manufacturer may use woven interlining on the front or other structural sections where greater support is required. PA double-dot coating is commonly associated with these woven fusible materials. During the fusing process, heat activates the adhesive while pressure brings the coated surface into contact with the wrong side of the fashion fabric. After cooling, the bonded layers function as a combined construction. The correct result depends on matching the material and fusing process to the outer fabric rather than simply increasing the amount of support.
GSM selection is particularly important for jacket production. Lightweight formal jackets may require a lower GSM grade, while heavier fabrics can need a more substantial interlining to achieve the desired body. Manufacturers should also distinguish between major structural panels and smaller components because they may not need identical materials. Before bulk purchasing, a sample trial can help determine whether the chosen grade produces the intended stiffness, appearance and hand-feel. It can also help identify whether the adhesive bonds consistently under the factory's existing fusing conditions. Once the preferred grade has been established, documenting the GSM, construction and coating provides a useful reference for future production. This makes it easier for purchasing teams to request the same specification and for production staff to work with a consistent material. The purpose of woven fusible interlining is not simply to make a garment harder or heavier; it is to provide the right level of support for the specific construction being manufactured.
